Following a wild week of announcements from Gamescom, PlayStation is turning the spotlight back on itself with not one, but two State of Play presentations. The first showcase will be a standard State of Play, while the latter is the return of State of Play Japan, and will be hosted by Yuji Kaji. Both will air this Thursday, September 3 at 6:00 a.m. PT / 9:00 a.m. ET / 3:00 p.m. CEST / 10:00 p.m. JST.
“First, tune in for a new State of Play featuring updates and announcements from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners, concluding with an extended look at the vast world of Final Fantasy VII Revelation from our friends at Square Enix,” an announcement post on the PlayStation blog reads. In addition to seeing more of Final Fantasy VII Revelation (which just got a new trailer during Gamescom), we can probably expect to see some of the other big PlayStation games on the horizon. It’s pure speculation, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility to see Marvel’s Wolverine, God of War Laufey, or maybe even Kena: Scars of Kosmora. And after last week’s impressive extended look, our fingers are crossed to see more GTA VI, even if it’s unlikely.
The second showcase, which will immediately follow the first, is specifically focused on “upcoming games from game studios in Japan and Asia, including new gameplay, announcements, and more,” according to the blog announcement. On that front, we might hear about new projects from Atlus, Sega, RGG, or Phantom Blade Zero, which is due out this October. The State of Play Japan will air in Japanese, but with English subtitles.
The announcement doesn’t hint at how long the presentation will be, unfortunately. You’ll be able to watch it live on September 3 on PlayStation’s YouTube or Twitch channels.
