WELCOME TO THE WIRED live blog for the Apple WWDC 2024 keynote address.

We have a couple of reporters at WWDC in Cupertino, California: Brenda Stolyar and Will Knight. Watching along remotely, we have Julian Chokkattu, Nena Farrell, Lauren Goode, and Michael Calore. The WIRED team will provide live updates and commentary once we’re underway.

Apple’s presentation will get started at 10 am PT, 1 pm ET, and 6 pm BST. We’ll kick off the live blog about 30 minutes prior to that, so tune in right here at 9:30 am PT, 12:30 pm PT, and 5:30 pm in Ireland and the UK. This text will disappear and will be replaced by the feed of live updates, just like so much magic.

The keynote address will be streamed live from Apple Park in Cupertino, so you’ll be able to follow along.

You may be asking, why are we publishing a live blog when the whole show is also being streamed on YouTube? The short answer is easy: We love live blogs! The longer answer is that the WWDC keynote is basically a 90-minute infomercial for all things Apple. It’s a presentation aimed at both Apple’s software developers and the general public, and while we expect Apple to break some news in this keynote, the content on your screen will of course be missing a lot of the necessary context around it—how Apple’s software and service offerings compare to Google’s and those of other competitors, how transformative Siri’s updates really are, or what iOS’s newest security features mean for users like you. That’s what the live blog is for, to distill and analyze the news coming from Apple HQ and to give you the context that helps you become better informed. Also, live blogs are just fun for us to do. We really do love them.

What to Expect

WWDC is short for Worldwide Developers Conference, so it’s a developer event first and foremost. However, the keynote contains valuable information for everyone who uses Apple software, hardware, and services. We can expect updates about all of those things, but we likely will be spending the least amount of time on hardware. Instead most of the show will be about all of the new features coming to Apple’s software platforms for its devices: iOS, macOS, watchOS, iPadOS, tvOS, and the new visionOS. (If you want to hear about the new iPhone, come back in a few months; Apple typically holds events focused on mobile hardware in September.)

One persistent rumor is that Apple will use the WWDC 2024 keynote to debut several big AI initiatives, including stuffing AI-powered interactions into iPhones and Macs, overhauling the Siri voice assistant to give it greater powers and greater responsibilities, and building support for OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology into the Apple experience.

You can read Brenda’s full rundown of what to expect from Apple WWDC 2024. And we’ll see you back here at 9:30 PT for our pregame commentary. The live event starts half an hour later.
