One of Netflix’s premier TV shows returns this May in Bridgerton. The upcoming third season, which premieres May 16, will depict the courtship and romance between Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan). Besides Bridgerton, John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA, Selling the OC season 3, and A Man in Full arrive on Netflix in May.
While Bridgerton season 3 will undoubtedly be one of the most popular series on Netflix, it’s not the only show on the streamer. There are many shows to watch this May, several of which are underrated gems. Consider streaming these three shows, which include a beloved fantasy series, an eye-opening documentary, and a delightful dramedy.
Outlander (2014-)
One of the more underrated fanbases on the internet involves Outlander, the historical fantasy series based on the novels by Diana Gabaldon. While it does not garner the same attention as Game of Thrones and the Harry Potter films, Outlander has consistently released critically acclaimed television seasons since its debut in 2014.
At the center of Outlander is Claire Randall (Caitríona Balfe), a former British nurse who served in the army during World War II. On her trip to Scotland with her husband, Frank (The Crown‘s Tobias Menzies), Claire touches one of the standing stones at Craigh na Dun, which transports her back to 1743. Forced to survive in a new era, Claire marries Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a charming Scottish warrior. Claire falls in love with Jamie despite her marriage to Frank, complicating her feelings about her past life. Outlander’s strength is its versatility as a show, combining elements of romance, fantasy, history, and war that make for a compelling drama.
