Hulu may not have added any big-name movies this week, but the recent additions from the beginning of October are all very enticing selections. Because October is traditionally the Halloween season, there are a lot of horror flicks on Hulu this month. And rather than resist the trend, it seems appropriate that one of our favorite horror flicks from the last five years leads off our selections for the three great Hulu movies that you need to stream this weekend.
Our remaining selections are an animated film that plays very well with kids of all ages, as well as a dark comedy that centers on a superhero persona that simply won’t leave his performer alone.

Ready or Not (2019)
Hulu actually missed the chance to feature Ready or Not during its fifth anniversary in August, but better late than never! Samara Weaving has a starmaking turn as Grace, a young bride-to-be who is marrying Alex Le Domas (Mark O’Brien), a member of a wealthy family. On her wedding day, the family matriarch, Becky Le Domas (as played by rom-com queen Andie MacDowell), and the rest of Grace’s new family invite her to play hide-and-seek as part of a wedding tradition.
What Alex neglected to tell his new bride is that the Le Domas family is cursed, and they have to track down and murder Grace before the end of the night or else their own lives and souls are forfeit. Alex is somewhat conflicted about sacrificing his new wife to his family, but it’s his brother, Daniel Le Domas (Adam Brody), who is willing to act against them. With the odds stacked against her, this bride is going to have to learn how to kill … and fast.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019)
The Lego Movie was such an amazing accomplishment of story and property that a sequel was inevitable. The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part kind of undoes the happy ending from the first one, as the Lego world becomes a surrogate for the struggle between a kid named Finn and his sister, Bianca, in the real world. The combination of Bianca’s Duplos and Finn’s Legos have turned Bricksburg into Apocalypseburg, and Emmet Brickowski (The Electric State‘s Chris Pratt) isn’t quite the Lego man he used to be.
Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi (Tiffany Haddish) of the Duplos kidnaps Lego Batman (Will Arnett) and others before bringing them to her Systar System. The queen claims that a marriage between herself and Batman will bring peace, but Emmet, Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks), and a new arrival, Rex Dangervest, don’t believe her. They think that the marriage is a front for Armageddon, and they’re not going down without a fight.

Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance) (2014)
One of the most heartbreaking scenes I’ve ever seen at the Oscars was Michael Keaton putting away his written speech after his name wasn’t called for Best Actor for his turn in Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance). He really deserved the win that year for playing Riggan Thomson, a character who has a lot in common with Keaton himself. In a clear nod to Keaton’s days as Batman, Thomson once played the superhero Birdman on the big screen … and it’s a role that literally haunts him.
Thomson sees his chance to pull off a Hollywood-style comeback comeback by writing, directing, and starring in a Broadway play. He wants to put Birdman behind him, but Birdman has other ideas and he constantly appears to Riggan as the actor’s attempts to get his life and career in order. Something has to give, and it might be Riggan’s sanity if he can’t make peace with the two sides of himself.
